High Street Drainage Design
City of Greater Bendigo
High Street, Kangaroo Flat
TPD were engaged by Greater Bendigo City Council to design 400m of Trunk Drainage to service a developed residential catchment. The existing downstream drainage infrastructure in this mostly developed catchment was inadequate to accept major flows from the existing trunk drainage. Utilising a site being developed buy a private developer, we were able to assist in providing a missing link to the existing trunk drainage network, delivering a positive outcome for both Council and the Developer.
The design involved tailoring the trunk drainage system to minimise impact on the affected development site while being cost effective for Council. To cater for stormwater flows from the up-stream catchment the trunk drain was sized from 900mm to 1200mm in diameter, as pipes of this size could not be accommodated in a standard road reserve width the pipes were located under the roads of the future development. Due to the need for structures to match in with future infrastructure, all pits located within the future road were hanuched and individually designed. In keeping with requirements of the Northern Central Catchment Authority, the trunk drainage outlet to the Bendigo Creek was designed as a ‘natural’ rock beached outlet, to adequately manage velocities of stormwater outflow and also creek flows while providing an outlet that respects the existing terrain.
