Napier Street Drainage Design
Project Description
TPD was engaged by the City of Greater Bendigo to design a suitable solution to flooding occurring to properties along Napier Street as a result of the existing stormwater network having insufficient capacity to cater for large storms. We first analysed the contributing upstream catchment of just over 61 hectares to determine peak flow during a critical storm. A number of factors needed to be considered including land use, pervious area and the slope of the catchment. We then devised a suitable solution to convey the stormwater directly to Lake Weeroona.
TPD has been involved with a number of flood mitigation projects, particularly in older established areas such as this where existing networks are often not designed to cater for severe storms. The technology and data available to us now makes it possible to obtain good solutions with a lot more certainty than was ever possible in the early days of urban development during the gold rush era.
